The client's words made my heart skip a beat. We'd just wrapped up a white paper, a major project for the mid-sized company.
His words meant my words had done their job.
They'd captured the essence of the client's message, targeted the right audience, and produced marketing material the client was proud to stamp with the company logo.
We went on to discuss the next project--the audience, the message, the details of word count and timelines--and wrapped up the meeting.
But I haven't been able to get the conversation out of my mind.
How I Got to Where I Am
You see, I've worked with words most of my life.
In the last 15 years, in fact, I've spent countless hours helping English learners wrap their minds (and mouths!) around the spelling and sounds of this quirky language.
And I've discovered I LOVE helping others communicate, especially when they're doing some good in the world and have a making-a-difference kind of story to tell.
Conversations like the one above? Honestly?
They make me smile for days! (Yes... I'm serious.)
Knowing I can help CEOs, communications directors, sustainability directors and others get their message out to their target audience is worth waking up for!
Whether that's textile manufacturers aiming for transparency in their supply chains and sustainability in their processes and products or universities shaking things up with disruptive and impactful research, collaborating is part of the joy.
I also happen to like digging into grammar and vocab to try and find just the right word, structure, and tone for the message I need to convey...
I think that makes me a language nerd, doesn't it?
Shhhh.... don't tell anyone!
